The TH400 uses an output yoke with 32 splines; the M20 used a 27 spline yoke. The early Borg Warner T-10 4-speeds, the Muncies through about 1969(?), the PowerGlides, and the TH350s all had the 27 spline outputs; the TH400, the later Muncies and the BW Super T10s (~1975+) all used the 32 spline output.
However, prior to the early 70s, the yoke's u-joint size was a 1310; later yokes used the 1330 u-joint with a wider spread.
AFAIK, the drive shaft lengths were all the same, but early drive shafts had ends taking 1310 u-joints; later drive shafts had ends taking 1330 u-joints. In the event you need to match an early 32-spline yoke with a late drive shaft, Spicer makes a nice conversion u-joint which connects the 1310 size yoke with a 1330 size drive shaft.

with everything but the lengths part. There are different lengths for a TH400 and a 4-speed shaft. TH350 and 4-speed are very close in length.
You are correct! I checked my old '71 Corvette parts book - there are two drive shafts, with the "except TH(400)" longer. The book gave an overall length for the "except TH", but only gave the tubing length for the TH400 shaft!
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
