ok, getting ready to drop the rear susp. tomorrow after work--where is the best/safest place for the jack stands. i am pretty scared about getting under the car and wrenching. i'm sure alot of you had this problem the first time also. any suggestions?
Here you go Erika. and welcome to the forum. Make sure you crack the t-tops and crack the doors. it puts a lot of flex in the body
Also, make sure you SHAKE the car after it is on the stands, to make sure it is secure. Can't be too caeful. It's not that scary, just take your time and you will be OK
Before you get under the car, read the "funniest" injuries section that appeared here yesterday. Then shake the car a few more times (after you've finished shaking your head). Talk about an eye opener!
Stay scared! I rarely crawl under with "just" 4 jackstands. If the wheels are off I will slide them under the frame. Sometimes I put the ramps under the wheels even when the car is on stands. Gets a little crowded sometimes but my wife keeps reminding me that I can get crushed! gee, thanks honey! :) MJ
Also, notice how close to the center those 4 points are in the diagram above. Seems like a lot of the car's weight is on either sides of the stands doesnt it?? Like the entire engine is hanging in front of the front stands!! Here is something else to worry about, besides a jackstand failure or your cr falling off the stands. What if your 30yr old frame is rusting from the inside out? Looks ok from the outside but is compromised on the inside. Maybe with all that stress on your car and the entire front w/engine hanging over the stands, what if your frame snapped in half? Just something additional to worry about! (sorry) MJ
