Hi everybody! I'm in the process of installing my carpet in my 82 and I don;t know what I should do with the carpet panels on the console, kick panels and speaker covers???
I have the carpet cut outs but there's no backing. Sould I cut out some cardboard and make backing for the carpet or try and get the old carpet off the kick panel and glue on the new carpet???

i went to a local lumber yard and bought a 4x8 sheet of 1/4 inch panel board and cut out new backing panels. I removed the carpet from the factory panels and used these panels to trace an outline on the 4x8 sheet. Trusty old jigsaw made me some new ones. Predrill the holes, glue the new carpet on and presto-whamo!
Didnt do door panels so i cant advise you there.

If the backing is still good just remove the old carpet and glue on the new stuff.
Or.... as mike said make some. I think the kick panels on yours are plastic
Thanks guys! The carpet did pull off with most of the board staying in tack. The rear speakers had long skinny staples holding the carpet on. After an hour I finally got the last staple out Tomorrow the kick panels
