Default Bubba's Upright Shenanigans...

Well my half shaft/parking brake repair has gone south...

When trying to figure out just how the rear brake cable connected to the parking brake clutch lever I removed the passenger side caliper. I noticed that the lower bolt wasn't original and dangerously short. Apparently they stripped the threaded hole on the upright on a previous install. They solved the problem by installing a small-square headed stud from the outside, between the rotor and upright. The short stud's threads didn't even go all the way through the nut, let alone have a few threads showing...

So as I reinstalled it I wanted to try and pull a few extra threads out of it... mistake. I couldn't even really torque down the nut, instead it just kept spinning. Sure enough, the head of the small square headed stud was pulling straight through the backside. When I realized this, I decided it needed to be done right so I removed the stud entirely...

So now, any suggestions? My ideas are trying a through bolt that (might) fit between the rotor and upright? Or perhaps a helicoil installed in the upright? The hole in the upright has already been drilled out to a larger diameter than the other caliper bolt hole on the upright.

I'll have pictures to follow. Unfortunately the car is in my girlfriend's garage and her roommates want it OUT. So I've gotta get moving on this project... Thanks in advance as usual...

They work excellent if installed properly.

Any concern with keeping it from screwing right out of the through hole when I install a bolt? Recommendations on a thread tightener or something?

Helicoils work great in almost every case. It's just a bit tricky the first time you install one.
It's much easier when the surface is flat and perpendicular to the hole ( decked ).
You don't need any thread tightener, helicoils can't screw out when they are set.

Well, you could buy a little insurance and not tap completely though when you install the helicoil.

Relatively easy install of the helicoil. Bought the kit and the drill bit and tapped it out myself. First time using one, I've used something before that was a plastic insert you installed with a screwdriver. I was impressed at how easy and awesome this thing turned out. New bolt threaded right in and held great. The car is back on the ground and running.

It took my three helicoils to get it figured out tho. Thanks for the help.
