Default weak 81 wiper motor?

So the wiper motor in my 81 seems to be really weak. Both wipers only move a little bit and then go back to their position. Could it be just build up on the motor? what can I do? Thanks.

If your saying they move up out of park and then go right back down to park there is something wrong.

hm. any ideas on what it could be? it's like it just hits a wall and goes back down. they only move up probably like an inch and a half.

Did you try helping it with you hands? Sometimes the get crudded up from sitting. You may want too unbolt the arms from the motor drive arm. To see if it's the motor or the linkage?
Yes to the white lithium grease. I use the spray so I can get the hose into the joints better

hey guys, sorry for not responding for a while. I just got around to dedicating some time to this yesterday.

So yesterday I took apart the entire wiper setup. Everything. I greased it up. It still wouldn't work. So then I opened up the motor. Everything seems to be working correctly.

The gear seems to pull around a tensioner and spring which rotates the deal that connects to the wiper. It builds up by the gear slowly getting larger and then completely drops off and releases the tension (down for the wipers?) and it clicks when it does this. Does this all sound normal?

I was also thinking maybe they had it connected backwards to the motor at the wiper mechanism. so I flipped around the flange thing that connects to the motor and tried it that way.

So a couple more questions...

1. is the flange that connects to the motor mechanism (that has the two ball join things) supposed to move at all. It moves a little and seems like it just gives instead of moving the wipers.

2. Are the ball joints supposed to be stiff or really loose? Mine are pretty loose. they have A LOT of give.

3. Can anyone post pictures of their wipers so I can compare and see how they should be set up? Or better yet, does anyone have a video of theirs operating?

4. Can anyone point me in the direction of a whole new setup so I can just try that if all else fails?

By the way, the motor seems to be pretty new. When I opened it up there was no build up, everything was greased sufficiently and the screws and bolts inside were shiny and new looking. And I can also move the wipers by hand with ease so I know it's not a build up issue anymore.

thanks again everyone.
