These are the same brand of gear as the one's i'm trying to setup. Can someone explain to me why the seller says that to install in a 65-later rear you must use a 63-64 pinion bearing spacer? Am I right by thinking he is talking about the crush sleeve? My parts guy at the GM dealership listed a pinion bearing spacer but noted that it was also called a crush sleeve.
Let me shed some light on this for you. That gear is really for a 63-66 Corvette. However it will work up to a 67, or a 70 w/4spd. The spacer he is talking about is really a crush sleeve, but not like the one that came in your car. It is a very short crush sleeve which was used through 66. The reason you can only use it up to 70, is if you notice it has course splines on it which means you will have to use the front yoke from a 63-66 which is the same all the way up to the 70 4 spd except for the spline count. In 68 w/ auto and 71 all they used the wider 41/8 yoke.

Excellent information here! The 17 spline pinion yoke isn't a problem (smaller ujoint though :( ) So what year Corvette should I get the smaller crush sleeve for? I have a brand new set of Scheiffer 4.88 gears that are for an early car but i'm installing them in the 74. The only missing link so far is this mystery crush sleeve. Thanks.
You don't need 5.13s you NUT! I can't beleive you even have 4.88s with that 700r4 :D

I don't want the 5.13's, but they are the same brand as the 4.88's which brought a few questions to mind. If I had the chance to not have the 3.06 low gear, I wouldn't. But I have too much money (for me) into this transmission to scrap and start over with a 200-4R. My calculations predict the engine being at peak power at the end of 1320 feet in 3rd gear with the 4.88's along with the 28" tall slicks the M/T say will grow up to an extra inch. Fine tuning the gear ratio for drag racing specifics will most definetley net me a greater et.
