Fuel Inlet Filter Assembly
I have a QuadraJet and I am having a problem with fuel leaking from between the fuel inlet filter nut (the 1" nut) and the carb housing. The threads on the housing look good, at least okay. It is my understanding that the sequence of parts from the carb toward the fuel line is as follows:
Spring
Fuel filter
Check valve
Gasket (usually included as part of the paper filter)
Rubberized Washer (around the 1" threads and the nut)
Filter housing nut (1")
fuel line (from the fuel pump)
If this is the case, I'm missing the rubberized washer.
Question One:
Are you running with this rubberized washer? If not, what was your substitute?
I presume PepBoys or AutoZone will have the rubberized washer. They're closed now, but I'll call them tomorrow.
Question Two:
How many of you have the check valve? Should it be included in the fuel filter? What brand of fuel filter is worth the money for normal street driving?
I understand having a check valve is not critical. I’ heard, "So the bowl dries up – now big deal, just drive it more often. :D "
Opinions?

There is supposed to be a nylon gasket in there too. I pulled one out of my Edelbrock #1901 (Qjet replacement, so everything is the same). The one I pulled out was really thin, and somewhat shredded. It reminded me of the clear protective wrap they put around the top of a jar (like a pickle jar) to make sure it hasnt been opened. Without this gasket, there was a big leak!! I found a little white replacement gasket in a carb rebuild kit that I just happened to have. It worked fine, and no leak. I also learned there are 2 different size qjet fuel inlets. The smaller size has a gasket that fits inside opening. The larger size takes a gasket that fits over the screw threads on the big screw-in nut. My Edelbrock has the smaller size. My old Rochester Qjet has the larger size. The Edelbrock tech pointed this out to me. (I called for help about the gasket). Maybe lars can spell this out a bit more clearly. I am not aware of a seperate check valve. MJ
