81 auto trans help needed
I have a 81 corvette that want to down shift then up shift when ever it wants at higher speeds. The kick down cable is not attached. Vacuum hose is connected to back of manifold. Can anyone help with problem, I want to try the modulator first.
I can get the tranny to upshift by moving the linkage to neutral and back to 3rd

If the computer is still hooked up, then it may be trying to control the lock out converter function. You might of noticed that the car runs fine when its cool or just started up. The computer won't tell the converter to lock up unless it thinks the engine is at normal operating temps. I would disconnect the temp sensor located next to the thermostat housing and take the car for a test drive to see if it still has the problem. I'm not sure but you may see a check engine light while you are testing the car. Maybe someone else will chime in on this, I have a 81 which is all original and it does the same thing at highway speeds. There are several ways to by-pass the TCC, do a search here on the forum and you should find a lot of information.
