Default loud sound from engine
Engine all of a sudden makes a loud whinning, squealing sound. Took of belt so it's not water pump, etc. Sound comes from inside engine. Car will barely start and when it does has hard time just idling. 1971 with 454. Sounds like it may be rebuild time?

Could it be a whistling sound from a vacuum leak?

Pull the drain plug and check for bearing material. Could be a bearing on it's way out. If it is, you sure want to catch it before it toasts a main or breaks a rod.

Just drained oil and found copper colored metal flakes in the oil filter. Bearing I would guess. I guess I've seen enough to continue the teardown.
