Default electric fans

some of you i am sure have electric fans or fan instead of belt driven,i was wondering is it better to have one big one or two small ones?i am using a thermostatic switch/sensor to run the system,i have no air conditioning and am using a big aftermarket tranny cooler in which it wont need a lot of flowing by it so any ideas would be helpful, also when should fan come on and off? thanks in advance!

well...the duals allow you to cover more sq. cubic inch of the radiator than one big one... :yesnod:

Tom Dewitt has a nice price and setup on the dual spals.

Last Thursday Tom Dewitt had a special price on the dual 11" Spal setup for $344.00. I think about 7 guys ordered that day. I 'm waiting on mine to arrive. That's the best way to go.

I actually run triple fans on my 68'. I use Flex-a-Lite dual electric fans (always on) in
addition to the belt driven fan. The electric fans really helped for slow traffic. My Vette
runs 180 - 185 degrees in slow traffic and 185 - 195 degrees at higher speeds.

I have 2 16 inch hurricans. One mounted in front high on the outside and one mounted inside low on the opposite corner. One comes on automatically and one is switch controlled. In heavy stop and go traffic both are on but for normal expressway cruising only one. I try to run around 190. 160 is definitely too cold.

I guess I'm the only one running a single 16" fan. So far, never passed 185 degrees, was very inexpensive at about $45.00 used and was easy to install. I used a Painless Wiring harness with temp sending unit mounted into the intake. The fan turns on at 185 and turns off at 175. The whole project was about $100.00.

Regards,

Jim

Nope. Not the only one. My Flex-A-Lite Black Magic single fan keeps my car very cool as well.

Shown on the left is the original shroud and original GM helper fan (the helper worked very poorly by itself). The Flex-A-Lite Black Magic fan is on the right.

I mounted the Flex-A-Lite assembly, complete with shroud, inside the original shroud by way of threaded rods and holes in the sides of the shroud. When mounted up against the radiator, the soft rubber lip on the Flex-A-Lite shroud makes a good seal.
