all ready thinking of my next winter project. i think i am going to build a 383 short block! my question is is starting with a roller block a better starting point or does it really matter??? the reason i ask is i have both. the engine in my vette is a 1990 2 bolt roller block it's a 638 casting and i have a good 010 4 bolt block from a 70's vette witch one is the better choice to build??

The 90 roller would be cheaper because you already have the spider and lifters but the 70 has the 4 bolt....
I would do the 90 if money is an issue. I've seen many 500+hp engines with 2 bolt mains. Just use ARP main studs
