Default replacement of engine mounts

Hi there, I think that I have worn engine mounts because my fan is rubbing the shroud..

I'm going to replace the mounts but I don't know what type to choose,
my car is a 72 that used to be a small block car, now it has a 350 ZZ3 (86 or 87 and later).. will I need to buy original style mounts or they wont fit because that I have a different engine?

and I did a search and someone recommended to use an interlocking type, what is that?

on the other hand, is it a one man's job to be done, a matter of a floor jack and couple of stands? or I need assistance?

thanks.

I would think it's the same block size. is the fan hiting the schroud all the time or just under throttle? you should be able to look at it and see if it's all torn up. or brake stand it and see if the motor lifts.
It is a one man job. floor jack under the pan after you unbolt the mount. do one side at a time. Just make sure you don't lift it to far. I would go with a performance mount at the motor and trans.

the fan is touching the lower right side of the shroud, sounds like strong clicking, increases with decelaration when the engine is engaged in gear, when neutral it is making less noise.

and I think the rubbing has increased recently, so I assume that the mounts are getting worse and worse.

those performance mounts you mentioned are the polythrane ones?

do I have to do the trans mount too? or it is just a recommendation to do things at once?

thanks.

just recomended so everything is the same and no weak points. It's well worth it.

sounds like it might not be the mounts. They just dont go flat. when it's in gear it would cause the motor to rise under tourqe. check and see if the shroud is loose and anything in that area. look and see where it's hitting. But also look at the mounts, they do go bad under years of thrashing on them

to motor rises under torque? you mean from one side only? it will be under rotational force wouldn't it?

yep... sounds like a bad mount now. if you continue to drive it like that you might want to drop it into nutral when at a stand still. I would not drive it much. go with the energy systems mounts. they will last alot longer. I think summit sells a good kit not to spendy.

put the car on stands and look at the mounts. they will be torn and the rubber will be split if they are bad.
Iether that or have a buddy look at the motor while you brake stand it and see if it lifts or starts hitting the shroud.

They won't always look worn. I just had my drivers side go out on me. My fan was hitting the shroud and my alternator arm was hitting the hood when I was taking off of the starting line at autocrosses. Just looking at it it looked like it was still good. My mount was an origanal, non interlocking type. The metal parts just seperated from the rubber. When the motor was just sitting there, the mount looked like the metal and rubber were joined.

I used and engine hoist to pull up on the motor to get the old mount out. I had the front of the car up on jack stands, took off the alternator and the drivers side exhaust manifold to get to the mount easier. I put an interlocking mount I had sitting on a shelf onto the car. I need to order another one so if the pasanger side goes i have it ready to put in. I probably should get a spare too.
