yup...i have guideplates. I had to cut on the heads a little because I had some interference between the pushrods and the head. I also did your trick of loosening the guideplate and pushing in the direction I needed it to go then retightening.
I also got a pushrod length checker so I could make sure I had my rocker centered on valve stem. I ended up having to go .100 long on the pushrods to get it right. I guess the valves were .100 long.
So, I took you guys advice. I have checked for vacuum leaks and I definitely have some!
I also took the carb off a little bit ago and discovered that I had bent over the end of one of the metering rods when I put it back together last time. I was able to bend it back without breaking and it is much better. Still not right, but better.
I think from here I am going to order a carb rebuild kit and fix my vacuum leaks and see where that gets me.
