After starting my new 383cid with Pre-'87 Trick Flow heads. I could see and hear my roller rockers hitting the intake side of the valve covers. I'm useing tall chrome Edelbrock valve covers. I called Trick Flow they said that they have heard of this before, to fix it just drill the four holes larger on the valve covers. And when I put them back on push the covers up towards the intake. This weekend I'll try that.Just wanted to let everyone know what I found out just incase they have the same problem. Ray.
So far so good. The only problem I had was that when I put on my exhaust manifolds one of the bolts tried to strip out the hole because it was too short. I just rethreaded the hole and changed out the bolts for longer ones. Yes, I did put manifolds on my 383 I just didn't want to mess with headers, because my '71 uses the manifold as a place to bolt the altenator to. I did go to the bigger manifolds. Ray
I had trouble with one of the head bolts. When I had the head on I couldn't get one of the last head bolts started. Pulled the head, all the bolts went in fine. Had to "modify" ever so slightly one of the bolt holes in the head. Also had similar trouble installing my intakes - GM & Edelbrock.
Had a little trouble with alternator/valve cover clearance due to the raised valve cover sealing surface, but I got it to fit with some "finessing" :smash:
I also ran manifolds. I hate headers :U and I needed the manifold to mount my alternator. I did a little porting on my manifolds.
Over all, I am happy with the heads. Next time I might get cast iron though. I get enough aluminum at work!
