I am hoping to get some clarification on a pair of heads I have. Maybe they came off of a rare 1970 Corvette LS7, or maybe not. Please give me some verification if you can.
The heads are big block, rectangular port Chevy heads. The casting number is 3964291. other numbers cast in the heads are...GM 3T, HI-PERF, and F12 9, F17 9. I think the F numbers are the same but it was hard to tell if it was a 12 or 17.
According to Corvette-World.com the heads are from a 1970 460 HP LS7 engine. It also states that... "The LS7 engine was not produced for retail sales".
Since I started to inquire, I have got different answers. Some said these heads came on many Chevrolet motors. So I don't know what I have.
I remember reading through the years that the LS7 wasn't installed in ANYTHING, but was available over the counter for several years.
This is correct, only a over the counter service package 454 ci engine for off road use with 100+ octane gas requirement at a cost of $2600.00. Production was stopped in the late 80`s. It was never factory available in any body style....
