Looks like a have a small coolant leak. I found green leftovers on the driver side exhaust tube and some green water on the back of the block. Is there a freeze plug or anything back there?
Yes...3 down each side, and 2 under the bell housing.(actually 3 but the middle one is at the back of the cam, so no antifreeze there)
Best bet is to take it for a little cruise and check with a flashlight to see if you can spot the drip. It will probably only do it when hot and under pressure. It could also be coming from one of the block drain plugs which would be the best case scenario because you might be able to just tighten it up.(unfortunately they don't tend to come loose)
If its a real small leak it might just be following a casting line or the edge of the oil pan till it drips off the back, so don't assume it has to be on the back of the motor.
alright thanks for the heads up, i saw some of the coolant what seemed to be ontop of the bellhousing area so im guessing it is one of those top freeze plugs, ill run it warm one day this week then get at it with a flashlight to figure out which one it is for sure, hopefully this will be curable without having to move the engine at all.
If you have coolant on top of the bell housing it's NOT a freeze out plug.
I would look at the intake manifold bolts and your heater hose fittings first then move on to bigger things like a head gasket
Buy the way, only the small block 400 had 3 freeze out plugs on each side.
I didn't realize it was on top of the bell housing.
Like Hugie said, check heater hoses and intake. I'd still do what you planned and take it out then check for the leak.
