Good call guys! pulled the pickup off the oil pump and it was full of Nylon.... AHHH ha!
So somewhere down the line befor my dad, the gears were changed and means the cam was off from the get go... Dad always said that motor had a crap load of bottom end, said 1st gear was almost pointless.
I cant wait to see what the car does with the cam installed correctly.
HD truck engines did have a double roll style chain set with steel gears but all the rest are nylon gears including the reverend L88`s. That HD chain set is often sold as a cheap double roll set but are NOT a true roller. They just look like one and is the basic reason there are cheap sets. Cloyes does have a true roller chain set and is expensive...
I have a buddy that claimed his 70ish truck had the steel upper gear factory.... So I can see there being a bit of truth there. Then again seems like the "truth" is getting a lil trickier to figure out. LOL
