Ok Guys Count me in... Just picked up another '80 after selling my last one (tough times). I plan on doing some weight loss mods here and there as I am rebuilding and making this Vette a solid daily driver... But for now I plan on weiging my STOCK 70k mile 1980, L82, Auto (Ugh), Gymkhana, Alloy whels (stock).

plans are;
Wilwood D8 calipers, Stock Iron Leak
Wilwood Master cylinder
I am going to TRY the wilwood aluminum hub with adapter (rear mount) and 11.75" x 1.25" rotor
Torq Thrust Wheels - 5-6 lbs lighter EACH
Dunlop tires, 5-7lbs less than stock BFG Radial T/A
C4 Corvette Half Shafts and Driveshaft

Eventually
Aluminum heads, 113/L98 heads, cheap, nice compression bump, not looking for crazy power
Aluminum water pump
Aluminum radiator
Desmog with headers
Serpentine kit out of a Camaro
C4 Starter (mini)
full exhaust
T5 Tranny swap

I'd like to be under 3000lbs, 350hp at the wheels and an overdrive transmission (prefer manual). But for now I need to address Leaky brake calipers and replace ALL bushings. Replace every fluid and repack grease in all 4 wheels and steering box and get some new tires.

Wow! This thread is still around? I just recently made my 3000lb goal, 2940lbs actually, with an LS7 427 conversion. Maybe I'll stop weight reduction projects at 2940lbs.......maybe not. My LS makes about 500hp, but people are getting 650hp with simple cam changes.

Wow! That's a killer beast you've made! That sort of thing was my dream car for decades but I've driven so little over the past two decades I'd be afraid to drive something like that now and open it up.

my L-46 4spd is also significantly under 3000 lbs.

Base car no PS/PB?Smog/Radio/Heater.
Add YJ8's -40 lbs
Fiberglas spring -40lbs
Convertible top in the back bedroom - 80 lbs
Pass seat ditto. -35lbs
Side exhaust

Was originally a 'racecar' so this was pretty easy.

Still around and keeping it alive!!! Most weight loss threads EXCLUDE the 80-82 models. And finding one bone stock on a scale is rare as well ...

Wonder what our cars would weigh if GM built one today with todays materials. Hydroformed aluminum frame, Forged aluminum suspension, some sort of lightened composite body, carbon fibre birdcage. All magnesium bracketry, Aluminum LS/LT. We would have a 400hp miata. Why the vette still weighs almost exactly the same generation after generation is beyond me.

Daydreaming aside, I will report back with some real life data from the local Cat scale. I will be weighing components as well. Ill need to swap brakes before weighing in because mine leak, wheels and tires will be swapped because my Eagle GT tires look to be 25 years old. but weighing everything I will add the weight difference to get the stock weight. Full tank of gas, for consistency.
