Rack attack and headers
I have a late 79, with headers. Wonder if there is any problems mounting the rack attack sytem with the headers??/ Any of you out ther done it? Are you happy with the Rack???

I put a rack on my 69 autocross car with out any problem at all. I'm running headers with sidepipes and actually have more clearance that I didi with the stock steering. I copied and improved the Steeroids unit. I used one out of a Pontiac. Can't remember just what it was, but I believe it was a Sunfire or J2000. The year was apx 2000. I made my own brackets using heavier material than the Steeroids parts. I just looked at the pictures and started building. It works great. The steering column center support was made out of heim joint and the rag joint was eliminated and made out of some VW clutch hubs. It turns 12" wide Hoosiers with no effort at all. I used a dirt track pump and is really a little too easy for road courses, but great for autocross. I can send some pics if you like.

I have installed about 4 racks on Vettes with headers. 2 of the sidepipe cars needed slight dimpling of the headers but the under car exhaust headered cars did not. It was not a big deal to dimple and it was only 1 tube by the steering joint.
