I have a 73 vert that was frame off, and its almost ready for the road. I turned it around the other day at the end of my driveway and found that the tires hit the lower front fender on both sides. I get about 3/4 of a turn either way then it hits. I tried altering castor camber and toe in but nothing seems to help. I am thinking of shaving the front fender for clearence as I do not want to replace the tires. Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated. The tires on it are BFG 255 60 15 all around. Even made my wife sit on fender to see if lowering would help but it made no difference, plus I would need another wife for the other side. LOL
One thing you can do to check the body/frame alignment is : take off one or both of the sill plates. Remove the 2 plastic plugs and see if the holes line up with the holes in the frame.
When I put the body back on the frame I neglected (or didn't know at the time, I forget which) to align the holes, and my right side tire rubs in tight turns. This fall I'm intending to loosen up all of the body attachments and straighten up the alignment.
When we dropped the body on the frame if I remember correctly it lined up close in the holes on the sill plate. I also remember that I could not move the body at all when she was sitting down. Looks like I am going to be shaving the lower front wheel well. I just talked to the guy who is going to be painting it and He said if I shve it He will redo the inner lip so it looks right. More fun, I just want to atleast go around the block to see how it handles.
