I am trying to remove the ignition assembly in the dash of my 1968. I have loosened the round bezel that is screwed in to the ignition but cannot get it out. I used a paperclip to stick in to the hole on the front of the ignition, but no luck.
"If you look at where the key goes in just to the side you will see a small hole (about the size of a paper clip). Turn the key to "acc" then insert a paper clip in the small hole. It should feel like it is pushing in on a spring. (because it is) The key and tumbler (inner part of switch) can then be pulled out towards you. At that point the retaining screw will be able to turn that last amount and allow easy removal. Reverse the process to reinstall."
Sometimes the tumbler actually WILL pull out as soon as you push in the little spring. But normally you turn the retaining screw the final couple of turns and it all comes out then. The final couple of turns can be pretty stiff though.
Hope this helps. If you still have problems let us know.
Make sure the key is turned to the Accessory position as said above, put the clip in the hole and push ,then turn the key further counter clockwise and pull the pin out, then turn more counter clockwise and the cylinder should pop out. I've been working on the key buzzer in one today so I have had the cylinder in and out several times.

I'll go out and see what bulb is in the one I'm working on and check the wire color going to the bulb, wonder why docs diagram doesn't show the bulb or wiring ???
Rick the bulb is an 1895. The wires are gray and black so its going to be on when the dash lights are on.
Rick does a 68 have a headlamp door warning light ?

Thank you Roger I think mine only had the gray wire which is probably why that light wasn't working. Black being ground right. Are both wires in the same connector or does the ground land on the switch housing somewhere? No need for you to check if you don't remember, I'll figure it out once I get back in there.
The '68 doesn't have the headlamp warning light, just the door ajar, wiper override, and the seatbelt light.
Rick,
both wires go to the same connector/bulb socket.

Thanks Clifford,
I had a feeling that was going to be the case, now I have to hope that either my memory of what I saw last time I was in there is wrong or that I have that socket from the parts car harness.
