Do you remember the color of the wire / wires?

No it's been a long time, but the large fuseable link looked normal. I checked it with a continuity gage and found it to have gone bad as I drove. Current would not pass through it when checked. I hard wired around it until I got home. Not a smart thing to do, but nothing burned up in that short trip. I replaced it with an auto reset breaker.

OK. Found out it was the module in the distributor. Replaced it with my old distributor module. I will buy a new one and keep one handy in case this happens again. Just need to keep a few tools in the back storage bins. Thanks for the good advise. Problem solved. Do you think the heat under the hood of a vette added to pre-mature failure? This was only about a year old with really minimum mileage on it (a couple of 1,000 miles).

Couldn't help it. I run a three inch duct tube from a home made scoop to an area near the carb to keep air flow there. Had vapor lock in one of the 60s muscle cars I have, so I'm causious about heat under the hood

The module's life will be shorter than it should be if the heat sink grease is not used under it.

As Tim said, be sure to use the grease between the module and the base.

There was plenty of grease under it. This is the second issue I have had with this distributor from Summit. The other was the adjustable can that never did work correctly. I would highly advise against buying the Pertronix flame thrower distributor. Really crappy quality. Do Not Buy it!!

Car died again this morning. Had to have it towed on the way to work!! It is definitely the same thing. Module had to go bad. I noticed the volt meter very eratic this morning, then car died. WHat woud cause the module to fail? If the volt meter was jumping, would that cause the module to fry? Sounds like a regulator which I believe is built into the alternator. Does this sound like the culprit??

A bad coil ground, low / high voltage at the module, excessive current draw, heat, looking at it wrong - any of these can kill a module.

You should probably change out your pickup coil too. A bad module can damage the pickup coil, and the damaged pickup coil can then damage replacement modules. It's often a good idea to change them both at the same time.

It's a little more work, but if you change them both out there's not much of the Pertronix electronics left to give you worries in the future. If you can get Standard Ignition Blue Streak parts in your neck of the woods, there is rarely anything much better than that.

i would assume that your problem is these wires

the three wires coming from the bottom of the dizzy
as you can see, some mad electrical tape was used t fix my problem.. then later i went and just changed out this module.. whatever its called.
