I went to leave my house today to go to a car show on the other side of the city. I made it to the stop sign on the end of my street and POP the carb backfires and lights the air filter. In about two short seconds I had flames pouring out the back of my L88 hood. Luckly someone right behind me hopped out of there car and poured a super drink and about a 1/2 of a beer down my hood to quench the flames. I limped my car home a proceeded to wash the engine bay. It looks like the only thing I lost was the filter, but tommorrow will be the real damage report. I am looking to get a Fire Extinguisher now and would like any recommendations.
I have a 3lb Halon Fire extinguisher. Little more expensive than most of them, but will not leave a real big mess in your engine compartment. You want something that will last for at least 10 seconds or more.
i got a very small one for my car you might be interested in. fortunately, i haven't had to use it yet so i cannot verify the claims but the manufacturer says it can put out a road flair in three seconds. if that is true, that is pretty damn impressive. the one i got is only 8oz, it's call the little shot but i think they have one called big shot that is 16oz. not really a lot of fire extinguisher but if your right there, it should be enough for almost anything you run into. oh yeah! the 8oz one i got is small enough to stick in my glove box.
For those that have larger extinguishers, where do you mount them? I don't really want to drill holes. Would a small one behind the passenger seat be okay?
Sigforty- I sell fire extinguisher/ bracket kits for C3 Corvettes. They mount in front of the passenger or driver seats. I can customize the bracket to fit your needs. Chrome extinguisher/C3 bracket price start at $86. Red extinguisher/C3 bracket price start out at $65. Amerex 2.5 lbs fire extinguishers come with the C3 bracket. Check out my web page for more details.

I would suggest a halon extinguisher, as they keep the damage done by some chemicals themselves to a minimum, and mounting it in the cockpit where you can get at it quickly. Here is one web site that has halon units for automotive use: http://www.h3r.com/ Just look under products and vehicle units.
I like the set up you have there Dan. I have just one question can you get a Halotron I extinguisher instead of the dry chemical? and if not could I just purchase the bracket from you? I would perfer a clean type of extinguisher.
Sigforty-I can get you the Halotron I in the 2.5 lbs instead of the dry chemical .The Halotron is a great choice. My supplier sells a lot of them to NASCAR. I will e-mail you the cost as soon as I get the price from my supplier.

I just replied to your mail Dan. I would like to see the comparison in price of the chrome and red halatron extinguishers. I think the chrome would be a better touch when out showing the car. I plan on placing my order with you this week once I can deciede on which one to get. Man this has been one hell of a weekend. My car caught on fire and now today the motor blew on my 89 s10 blazer on the way back to Baton Rouge. I hope this coming week/weekend is better.
