1968 Passengers side mirror
Well after further research I guess the question I need to ask is, has anyone installed right side mirror using the well nut kit they all come with. If so were you happy with install and does it feel solid.Any issues over time with this install. Thanks.
P.S. I don't see any way to install a plate on the inside without cutting holes in 2 layers of steel inner panels.

The well nuts work fine. They are also used for the luggage carrier. Drilling into fiberglass is easy (compared with metal) but caution is advised. It is unfortunately too easy for a large drill bit to "catch" a dense spot and the torque of the drill motor makes a larger hole. I use a smaller drill 1/8" or 3/16" to generate a "starter hole" and then enlarge that with larger bits to the exact size of the collapsed well nut.
