Door Striker Question

I am replacing the striker on my 73. My question is do I have to remove the molding in the storage area to get to the nut that is holding it on, or will it stay in place? I checked the little door in the wheel well that you get to the alarm wiring through but I could not see the nut there is a foam barrier that is lower than th striker.

it's a welded nut attached to a plate that has some movement for adjustment. just unscrew the striker, the backing plate won't go anywhere.
