I'm working on mine right now too. Mine doesn't have the grommets, I'm wondering where they go and where I can get them, or does a 69 even have them?

What year is your car, that would help.

If you don't have luck with the grommets, you can always try gluing the carpet down. That's what I'm probably going to end up doing. I'm using 3M spray glue.

Steve, the 69 has them front and back. My back grommets are there, but the front have long since dissappeared. If there was anyway to get to the back side of the grommets, they should be fairly easy to push out, but getting to the back of them might be tough. (I haven't tried it, and they might be in a place you can't get to.)

I had the same problem... I figured the only way to remove'em without destroying them would be by pushing them from the back, but since that was going to be kinda difficult, I just left the grommets there. I cut some slits in the carpet, and after a lot of cursing I managed to pass the grommets through them...

I did the same as Pedro on my 71 roadster and used some spray glue for extra hold. You can buy new ones from Corvette rubber or Dr. Rebuild, but they are shorter than the OEM and I found they would not work. You could take the padding off the back of the carpet to gain some extra clearance but that is tough to do. Mine was glued down too tight.

I got grommets of the proper length and size from Corvette Central. My old ones were so brittle that even though I got some of them out in one piece, they ripped when I tried to re-use them. I installed the new ones by pushing them into place with a very blunt philips screw driver. Worked great. :yesnod:

jwbert,
Your car is beautiful but you might think of shrinking your signature a little. Every time I read a post that you have responded to, I have to scroll back and forth. You can shrink the picture in microsoft paint by percentages and then re-save it.
Thanks.

If you are concerned about cockpit noise, be sure to sound insulate the rear deck and rear wall. They are fairly thin fiberglass and vibrate like a drum head. I added a piece of 1/2" plywood, a sheet of 3/8" dense foam insulation (similar to a mouse pad) and the carpet. I now get much les resonance than before.
