I just finished installing a power steering renew kit from Vette Brakes and I am having trouble getting one of the lines from the cylinder to the control valve sealed. The line going into the bottom of the slave cylinder will not seal for anything. It appears to be cross threading although it's hard to tell laying on your back looking up at it. I must have tried for an hour to get it screwed in tight with no luck. Now I have power steering fluind leaking everywhere (yes I added the fluid not knowing it was not seated properly). Is there some secret to getting the line to seat properly?
Re: Need Help With Power Steering Hose (John's Shark)
Try taking a break for a while then losen it till its almost out then try pushing the tube in while at the same time tighten it up it has to seat properly. if it dosen't seall good take it apart and check the mating surfaces to make sure they are clean and not damaged
I am taking a break to clear my head and disappointment! I dont relish the thought of having to take the cylinder back off! Is there an ideal angle the cylinder needs to be in relation to the control valve/hoses? I have tried moving the wheel which moves the cylinder toward/away from the hoses thinking that would help, but no luck yet. Anyone else with any hints before I call Vette Brakes and rant? :smash:

These can be a pia. The thread is a little tricky as they go in at a slight angle. You need to snug them up tight to prevent a leak. Use a box wrench as the bolt can strip easy. It needs to be real tight or it will leak I had mine do this and it took an extra 1/4 turn to stop it: hasn't leaked since. Make sure there is no debris on the seat. :smash:
Oh one other thing try loosening up the other end of the hose. It may need that little extra mv't to get it in right. than tighten both when all are threaded. good luck.
I had this same trouble with mine as well. It does start a little crooked, because the threads aren't straight with the cylinder, and once it's started and seated out it takes a little more than you would think you should go to get it to seal. Follow dogboy's advice and you should be OK.
I think you guys may have cleared up one thing about the angle. I have been thinking it was cross threaded because the nut appears to be at an angle to the back of the cylinder. If this is how its suposed to be, maybe I am okay and just need to tighten. Have to shut it down for the night. Will try tomorrow a.m. Thanks. :)
Re: Need Help With Power Steering Hose (John's Shark)
I do not know where your lines came fron but here's what I found... Most if not all parts store brands of these U-shaped lines call for two of the same line.. That is wrong. There are two different lines so they can cross each other and not hit. Having the two lines identical makes installing them very difficult. TRW brand sells two different lines as do some of the specialty houses. So.... If you have two identical lines that is part or most of the problem. Check them out carefully The radius of metal "U" portion should be wider on one line than it is on the other. :smash:
