I ground off the bottom so it would clear the water pump but it is a considerably different geometry than the one I took off. The one I took off had a much sharper bend and worked fine until I put some zoops pulleys on the crank and water pump. Since then I couldn't find a belt that would fit right. I bought this new bracket with my chrome 140A alternator and the bend is situated in a such a way that it hits the alternator housing and will not allow for the bolt hole to line up with the slot in the bracket. I can't grind it and make it fit. The only way I see to make this work is to swing the bottom end of the alternator away from the engine so that the raised section of the housing that is hanging up now clears the bracket.
The universal alternator bracket does have the same geometry as your original bracket. You need to buy one from a Corvette parts supplier.
stock upper bracket does not work due to pulley change, can't find a belt that will fit it. They are either too loose or I can't get them over the alternator pulley because alternator hits the valve covers.
go to a auto parts store and start installing a few belts...they all have the length stamped in the belt and the sleeve it was identified with those numbers....too short, get a longer belt some are less than 1/2 inch difference.
I have the same problem with tall valve covers, I went with a shorter belt took out two mounting bolts, then installed the belt, then pull it all in place. However i am at the end of adjustment! I might try that second bracket from Summit

You may to use the above procedure. Remove the alternator completely, install the belt, then reinstall the pivot bolt on the bottom of the alternator, and adjust the alternator bracket. You can install the shorter belt this way and obtain a tight alternator belt adjustment.
