I have a 76 that had a big block 454 installed. Long story short i blew a ring and pulled the engine to rebuilt it. While the engine is out i have in stalled VBP new control arms upper and lower and front composite spring along with new rack and pinion sterring. So the front now is all set up for the rebuilt big block which brings me to my question im not sure what combination intake manifold and carburator and cam setup to use to make a decent street machine .
The key info needed is what hood you plan on running? And what heads; oval?
I am running the stock big block hood (1971); so the choices are very limited. We are going to try an old Holley Street Dominator with my newly rebuilt enigne; but its single plane and I really don't know how its going to work out. I had the old stock cast iron one and an Alum L78? on standby but will try the Holley. With the Dominator I will need a drop down base with a LT 1 or so I think.
With the stock hood you are limited to a number of intakes; thus you will end up with some restriction ..... limiting power .... There just doesn't seem to be any real good alternatives.
You can use the street domintator mentioned above, the edelbrock torker 2, the LS6 from a chevelle (its a dual plane) or if you want to use a qjet the intake from a l36 427. I have the LS6 on one my 454. I had to use the LT1 base to get enough hood clearance.
