All late LS? blocks are the same dimensions so they will all bolt in using the same adapters and conversions as described in many other threads here and on LS1Tech. There is a sticky at the top of this forum as well.
Questions to ask yourself (if it were me):
Self?
- How much do I want to spend and how much can I do myself?
- What is the overall purpose of the Motor/Vette?
- Do I want Carb or Fuel Injected?
- How much of the work can I do myself?
- Is the Chassis strong enough for all this HP?
- Is the suspension and DriveTrain/Transmission Strong Enough?
- If you go EFI you will need to upgrade the Fuel System and the electronics/computer and driveability\mpg might be better but a Carb will make great power and for the most part bolt right in and hook right up (with an MSD or Painless ignition to fire the coils).
- What is your appetite for WOW factor?
The valve covers are useless unless you plane mount your coil packs somewhere else, and when you do that you are looking at a custom kit unless you can make your own spark plug wires. If you go fuel injected with this your going to be spending alot more in a computer, harness, tune, you can go carb also however.
That seemes to be a all out race engine almost, it has a pretty stout lift/duration cam and will definetly cause vacumme issues, and will most likely surge at idle.
the Stock rear ends can be built to hold that kind of power I have seen c3s running that hp and more.
the rear end currently in my 82 is a 79 rear end with 4.11s that is praticly built with stock components and has been behind a 650hp 416 ls3
490hp a few weeks back on HPTV out of a 6.2L E-tech engine. Fully EPA compliant with an aluminum block and heads. Plug and play. If you don't want that, snag a salvage 6.2, stroke it to 426, drop a carb on it and with a cam in the 23X range, you'll be at 625hp.
That 454 is gonna weigh a ton, thanks to the weight of the LSX block - bare, it weighs more than a GM CNC Bowtie big block.
...It also looks like the engine has the dry sump oiling system so that will be another challenge to fit the remote tank in the engine bay....
The ad says "The LSX454 comes as a long block with a dust cover, you can order an oil pan for the right set up for your application. This long block configuration allows you to configure this engine the way you want it." Looks like you can go either way.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
You see the price and it looks like a pretty good deal, and I love the motor but by the time you driving it down the road in you C3 you can probably double that price, and taxes too don't forget
