Default Summit headers

Getting the modification itch again...thinkin' of the low-buck mod, the Summit race headers, owner of the bodyshop that I work for doesn't want to have his technician install them in my '74 since he's worried about bolts breaking off and then it's a huge ordeal to make things right...also fitment issues...

Thoughts from those that have installed headers in a 36+ year old vehicle?

Thanks guys,

Kevin

Hello Kevin
I installed headers in my 71 and they went on fairly easily. The things to think about are does your car have AC if so an AC bracket may be needed to adapt the compressor the same with the alternator you may need an adaptor bracket. On my 71 I used a 74/75 alternator bracket and eliminated the need for an adaptor bracket. The wire shields around the exhaust manifolds will need to go. Then getting the header couplers to connect to the existing exhaust system can be a PITA.
It sounds like the mechanic that you work with has broken an exhaust manifold bolt while repairing a blow gasket in the past. I have never had this happen but plenty of others have and it is very inconvenient .As in just about all modifications one leads to another.
Best of luck
Scott

The Summit headers fit great on our '76, no clearance issues at all.

Will the headers give me increased sound? I assume they will...

I have a mild cam and head-work completed...

Headers will increase sound. As for how loud, it all depends on the set of mufflers you'll be using.
