I have a 68 vette L79 that after about 10 miles will start missing and quit like its starving fuel if you pump the gas pedal it will catch a few seconds then die, If you wait a few minutes it will start and go again, the car sat about 5 years before I got it and I replaced the gas tank, tank screen/pickup, filter, fuel pump and rebuilt the carb. Any suggestions? also what is the purpose of the return line on the filter? Thanks, Keith T
Mine was doing a similar thing but as it got worse idling hot it would not get any better. I pulled the front carb bowl apart blew it out and it got better then Today I got my alignment and it would just barely idle. I replaced fuel filter and now it runs like Jack the Bear.Mine Had new gas tank lines and everything from doing frame off. Filter had crap in it I think from new tank? So I would start with another filter. Also check for vacum leaks. I would start with that before getting to elaborate. Mine has no return line and works just fine now.
I had dried up rubber fuel lines with a kink in it.
Have a look at the bottom right of the engine (passenger side); find the fuel pump, and trace all the fuel lines. Mine would seriously hesitate under full throttle and the hose was about to split. It came apart in my hands when I took it of.
This time of year, I've seen the fuel line vapor lock when it's to close to some heat. Most likely not but you could wrap the fuel line with aluminum foil and see if it helps. If it does reroute the fuel line.
