It is stamped on the top surface of the frame next to the outside edge, and displays parallel to the outer edge.

There are no other locations other than the 2 mentioned on the frame for the VIN number. You will have to use an inspection mirror to see the number. If your frame is rusty the number may not be readable.

Top of the frame rail, driver's side, just in front of the #4 body mount. You might be able to see this stamp if you can clean the area.

Second stamp is here:

You cannot see this stamp with the body on the frame.

Good luck.

Here is mine and the location. I think you can use a mirror to find it. It will be a condensed version of the VIN.
Name: Frame VIN 1S115707.jpg

1S115707 is mine on my 1971.
Good luck with it.

I cannot see the number in your pic but it looks like you are very near the correct location.

The stamp is a VIN derivitive; it is not a complete VIN. It probably reads 16S4xxxxx.
1 for Corvette
6 for 1976
S for St. Louis
4xxxxx is your consecutive unit number.

Same VIN derivitive will be stamped on the original engine pad. Your complete VIN is on the driver's windshield post. A complete VIN (13 characters) was not stamped on the frame.

it is too bad your transportation authorities require that, there are so many that have an unreadable number due to rust or previous sandblasting.. you are lucky to even find it on a car that old..
