Hello All!
I am a new forum member with a fairly simple problem!
I recently received my new door panels from Corvette America. I opted to buy standard panels and transfer the Deluxe hardware from my originals. My problem is the new panels are made with an ABS back structure instead of fiber board and I can not get a staple to penetrate it!!!!!! I went to my favorite rental shop (Home Depot) and aquired an electric staple gun and still no luck. It may be that the staples for interior work are different than the ones I can buy at H.D. but they look the same as the ones Corvette America used. BTW I called them yesterday and they said to call back during the week.
Have any of you had this problem?
It seems that some great force is trying to prevent me from amking progress in this car! Every weekend it something else!! I need a forum boost!
Thanks for your help
I did the same thing. I think if you were to predrill the staple holes and manually bend them it might work. Wasn't worth it to me so I now have a standard interior!
As far as I can remember what you think are staples are actually wire that came of a spool was attached , cut, and crimped at the factory, so you might want to pre-drill and gwt a roll of crimping wire.
Thanks to Larry, Tom, and Chevyman!
Larry- I refuse to give up!!!!!!!!
Tom- They are staples, I think you are referring to "OEM" door panels. Wire retainers were used to attach the inner window felt, adhesive and staples are used to attach the vinyl panel skin to the backing where it wraps around the back.
Chevyman- what model gun did you buy?
Thanks to everyone that replied! Just in case anyone else out there encounters this problem, heres what worked for me. I found some T50 staples made by Arrow, Item #505 "Monel rustproof staples". These bad boys are hard enough to penetrate the ABS backstructure without deforming. I found them at Home Depot so they should be available anywhere. Unfortunatly, due to work constraints, I have to wait for the weekend to install the door panels.
