I am getting ready to drop in my big block , 467 motor and was wondering if anybody has used 40 Below water treatment for the radiator. I have a BeCool radiator, but have heard 454's run hot , what do you think?
You seem to have a pretty good cooling system with the dual electric fans and aluminum radiator. So I take it you are ready to break in your engine? If so I don't think 40 below water treatment would hurt. Your engine is naturally going to run hot(ter) during break-in until the rings seat properly. Good luck and have fun :D
Thanks for the reply bence, this week my friend is bringing the motor to my garage, can't wait! We have an engine stand made up and are going to run the motor for about a 1/2 hour or so, should make some sweeeeet sounds! We are going to check for any leaks or problems, before we drop it in the car. Hey how is your project going? When this is done we are going to have big fun this summer with our monster blocks!! BeCool,,, Tom
467-Ratman,
Important thing to remember is drop in one can of the 40 Below or two Bottles of Red Line Water Wetter.....Then about One Quart of Anti-freeze and top off with Pure Distilled Water......Very important to have all your Air Dams in place, especially along the top and sides of the radiator....so the air goes through the radiator and not around. Dr Rebuild has good info, (get his catalog) and all the dams required to keep your car running cool when at idle and cruising along over 100 MPH. :seeya Cappy
I've never used 40 below. However - I did use (and still use) WATER WETTER on all my Vettes. It costs is only $7/bottle and can lower your coolant temperature by up to 30 degrees... On my previous 69 - my operating temperature dropped from 210-230 degrees to 195-205 degrees...
