Ok .... stock fuel pump, Edelbrock 650 carb .....on my L48 ......
Have readjusted valves and it runs strong, BUT highest vac at idle is when I have both mixture screws ALL THE WAY IN (less fuel?) My guess is that it is getting too much fuel from "somewhere" ........ too high fuel pressure from stock pump or something weird like that???
Floats have never been touched and are stock height
Oh yes, I put the carb back to stock (slightly lean) jets & needles..... and have 17hg vac at idle (highest I ever got up before was 12) and then it was irrattic bouncing 10-14 ....... but now solid as a rock and is running best it ever has!
If it was a holley carb I would say you have a blown power valve. Turning bleed screws all the way in should lean it till it stalls. Edlebrock must have something that operates like a power valve, thats what direction I would be looking. I have never seen how the Edlebrock functions so I can't say for sure what they use compared to Hollies. There must be Guy's out there that can diagnose this issue though?
Update: Not sure what, if any, correlation this might have, found out there is a PINK 7hg step-up spring in carb, not the stock YELLOW 4hg step-up spring .....
Should I go back to stock and see what the change will do or ?
