Steering upgrade
I know I am biased, but the Borgeson box is without doubt the best way to go here. Although it is marginally longer than the standard box, your '68 has a collapsible column and all you have to do is "collapse" it a bit over one inch to make room for the Borgeson box and new rag joint.
You retain your original Pitman arm, idler arm and all of the tie rods and standard steering/suspension components that GM spent $millions to develop. Therefore you will not get any bump steer, as you would if you fitted a centre take off R&P kit.
None of the power assisted parts will hang down under the engine, unlike the R&P kits. All you need from Borgeson is a # 800108 steering box, a # 055043 rag joint and a # 925103 hose kit, all up about $740. You will also need a pump and bracket if your car is a manual steer, or a Drag Link Adapter if your car has factory power steering. Borgeson have all of these.
Are you from the Fremont area? If so, Randy has this conversion fitted and can give you more info if you need it. He goes by 682XLR8 on this Forum.
Choose wisely.
