I've heard that if you don't already have a radiator style tranny cooler, you have to drill and tap the tranny case which is nearly impossible. So how do I install the cooler? Or do I have something that the inlet and outlet cooler lines can hook into? By the way, it's TH350 in a 1978 L-48.
It's easy! Just take off the upper line into your Rad. plumb in the cooler and run the return line back to the rad. Then you have cool oil to the tranny. I use athe biggest B&M solid core mounted in front of the radiator. Mine is out front more. But the kits come with nice zip ties to go straight through the rad.
My advice to get the biggest GVW a few more dollars is well spent. :)
every car with an auto tranny has a cooler of some sort, all gm cars use a cooler in one of the tanks in your tranny to cool tranny fluid.what you do is tap the new cooler into your lines into the rad,no need to touch the tranny itself.you could also plug off the rad cooler and run those lines from rad to an aftermarket cooler with rubber lines and hose clamps i have done lots, works good.

Every auto tranny car I have ever owned for decades now has had a HUGE tranny cooler dedicated to just the tranny, NO engine cooling through radiator....
heat is what kills auto trannies...so get the largest cooler you can find, and wire it to the a/c condensor....it's easier....inbetween the a/c and rad...there is room...
I used to use a room air conditioner condensor from junkyard years ago...
they had two 3/8 diameter lines in parallel running through them...and plenty of area....worked great,....trannys never ran hot, just warm....
I added one to mine out front, took heat right out of the car and transmission. Mine does not go thru the radiator. I did it a little different for my Chevy truck and attached the cooler in front and after the stock radiator before going back to trans, just to see any difference. Still cool so I guess it satisfied my curiosity. :smash:
Your TH350 will have cooling lines. I think there was a TH350ish transmission (th250?) that was used in v8 Vegas that did not have an external trans cooler, but any th350 will.
