Default Steeroids....non power capable?

I have installed a Steeroids rack and pinion, is it possible to run this as a manual system, non power steering? Just wondering if anyone has done this.

Thanks

They make a manual only system. Did buy the power system? There is a different arm between the 2 kits and of course minus the hoses etc.

I'm running the manual system on my '70 and I love it.

How is it in parking lots and stuff? Right now with a smaller aftermarket steering wheel, it gets pretty tiring to troll around in parking lots.. (non PS 327, manual).

Can you buy the manual kit and then later make it a power system

I'm using an aftermarket 14" steering wheel and yes parking is more difficult, but I speed a lot more time on the road than finding a parking space, and I love the highway manners of the manual system over power.

Yes you can buy the added parts and make it power later, but I have no idea how much more $ it would cost. Also if you spring for a nice serpentine system it will have to be upgraded too.

My manual Steeriods with a MillerSpeed serpentine system makes for a very clean set up.

no you can not convert it into power later! the manual versions piston has been drilled to reduce the resistance.

But how is it compared to the stock manual system in parking lots/etc? If it is at least somewhat easier than stock, then I may consider skipping PS...but if it's the same..then PS it is.

I think it is better than stock because you have fewer turns lock to lock, and as long as you rolling at all I've never thought it to be a problem to handle in parking lots. I'll freely admit that I wouldn't want to parallel park with it every day, but I've never had an issue parking it either.

I think you are wrong.
They do have fewer turns lock to lock, but they have less travel too.

Check the archives, when we were prototyping this system, MrVette, Twinturbo, Norval and me one of us, I forget who, determined that the ratio, and therefore the effort, was actually the same between the rack and the stock system.

Assuming Steeriods is using the Grand Am sport rack that is.
The non sport rack will be easier because it has more turns lock to lock.

I installed Steeroid's power rack and drove it without hooking up power steering pump. It was harder to steer at low or near no speed than the stock non power set up. At speed on highway very nice. Hitting the curves at decent speed, had to fight steering wheel a bit.

Hooked up power steering pump and drove. Very nice and easy to steer in parking situations. In corners, steering responsive and secure. At speed on highway, a little darty or to responsive. Easily can get use to. I think it would be perfect if I can reduce power steering pump output by about 25-30%.

Does anyone know of a reducing valve for stock pump?
