Default My 76 Doesn't start

Hi guys,

Before three days I went to the gas station and I full my car with petrol. Then I stopped it at home for two days. Yesterday I tried to turn it on but it doesn't start. The starter works fine and I hear the starter sound trying to start the car. But it seems like the petrol doesn't goes to the engine. Because when I put some petrol on the carburetor it start to work. Dos anyone have any idea ?

Thanks,
Abdulrhman

Ok so when you pour gas down the carb it starts and runs? If that is the case check that the carb is shooting gas when you push the pedal or throttle. If it is your accelerator pump is good but you may have another problem. If you have a q-jet it could be leaking down as you said it sat for 2 days and then didnt start, the gas you pour down will help it run then refill the carb bowls with fuel from the fuel pump. If this is the case it is definitely a fuel/carb problem, what carb do you have, also what fuel pump are you using.

its probably the fuel pump not the carb.

even if the carb plugs are leaking it should refill and start within several tries.

I'm going with fuel pump as well.

Would vapor lock also cause a similar issue, though? It's been pretty hot, this summer.

No problem, and like the others said its most likely fuel pump, try taking the fuel input off of the carb then turn over the engine and see if it pumps (cover it with a bag or something, if it works it will shoot gas!), if it doesnt theres your problem. Also, when you pour gas down the carb does it run and keep running?

Alright so its not your fuel pump, When you pump the throttle or hit the gas pedal when its off do you see a stream of gas shoot into the primaries? To do this take off the air cleaner, and with the car off push the throttle lever and you should see this. Also does it "stall" or "bog" when you are driving it on takeoff or hard throttle? This is most likely your problem as like when i got my '74 it hadnt been run for 2 years so i had to pour fuel down the carb because the accelerator pump didnt work but after that it started and ran fine, but it just couldnt start by itself (Im sure it didnt help that the fuel bowl were clogged up!).
