Had trouble finding a motor and fan that would fit the hole. All is clean in hole. Fan is shorter than original but aluminum. Could something be pushing the backside?
Thanks Gary
I've seen several posts stating that a C3 blower fan housing can be fitted with a C4 fan motor and fan, and all that is needed is a 1" spacer. Is that all that is required? No wiring modifications, or reaming out the housing or other changes? I'm looking to improve air flow in my '72 with air.
Making a spacer out of 1" plastic is an option or you can make one form 3/4" plywood and paint it black. You really don't need a 1" spacer, 3/4 will work just fine and keeps the blades extra close to the metal backing inside the blower housing.
To make one from plywood simply sit the blower fan on top a square section of plywood. Trace around the fan and then cut out this circle about 1/4" larger than the trace.
Once you have the fan hole, lay the motor back on top with the fan in the hole and trace the outer edge of the blower fan.
For screws... if you go to your hardware store you can purchase the pole barn metal (sheet metal) screws with the neoprene washers on them in 1" or 1.5". These screws seem to be the perfect size for holding the motor in place plus they offer a seal to the motor when installed.
