Im trying to change my tranny filter. When i took the old one off it was loose. kinda flopping there. should it be tight against the valve body or loose like it was. .
Should be a bolt with a flat washer that goes through hole in filter and into valve body. Bolt is shouldered and washer is stopped by shoulder. Filter is actually held in place by the washer and shoulder of the bolt holds washer. Does that make sense? I just did mine this weekend but did not take a pic. mike...
Found out washer should not be there. My apologies to all. mike...

Reason: incorrect info from me
there was no washer on mine when i took it off. After you installed yours could you move it up and down? so the washer doesnt slide over the shoulder, its smaller and the washer holds it secure?

Just did a work truck of mine, along with a shift kit-- it did not have a washer, but a spacer and it is floppy. Most kits now send 2 o-rings for the filter tube, they both do on the tranny side, don't force it, I felt mine was too low and cracked it. Had to go to a tranny place to get a new one.
A washer is not needed, or factory. Floppy is normal and (2) 0-rings are a good idea. The filter is designed to float along the shank of the shoulder bolt.
