Is it safe to assume that a early 71 LT-1 four speed would have a M-22 trans ?
According to my black book in 1971, 130 M22 close ratio H/D 4 speed manual transmissions were available for corvettes.8 ZR1's and 12 ZR2's had to have them so that leaves 110 M22's available for the rest of the corvette production run of 21,801 cars. M21 was the standard transmission for the LT-1 option, but I assume you could have ordered a M22 as a optional transmission choice.
Hope this helps
Regards
Roy
No. If you get a chance to see an original Corvette Order Form, the M22 heavy duty transmission was only available to the LS6 option. Only the 8 ordered LT-1 ZR-1 Corvettes received the M22 trans as part of that option package. The other 122 went into LS6's with and without the ZR-2 package.

early shark , it is my understanding that there were 12 1971 ZR2's , and 188 LS6's
So we know the 8 or 12 ZR2's had M22 , but would you agree that some LS6's must have came with out M22's? since only 122 M22 cars?
As I recall , I have seen the back of a 1971 sales brochure and you could get a automatic trans in a LS6
