What guage/thickness aluminum should I get for some floor pans. I've been thinking about changing them on my 78' Z28, but would like to switch to aluminum. I know it's not the Vette, but the floor pans are all rusty at the bottom and I would like to get that fixed. There's also a lot of heat coming in from the bottom. I'm going to start a new thread tomorrow, for the vette's progress, with a couple of pics. I haven't posted any updates, so I'm going to be doing that tomorrow.
Soft alum probably as thin as 16ga.
That will be a tough job to form and fasten.
Here's what I've done. sand blast the floor inside and out. You'll probably get a lot of pin holes.
Fiberglass the inside floor and let the excess resin drip to a covered concrete floor.
Sand the drips off with 30 or 40 grit grinder underneath and paint with Por or your favorite. When done it's hard to tell it's not factory on the outside and stronger than a vette floor.
Just another way to consider.
Hey Noonie.....I've never worked with fiberglass......but like your idea.
I was going to use navel jelly on the rust.......but have several holes.....will the fiberglass resin stick to the metal? Does regular paint go over the fiberglass or do you need a special primer coat?
Use a wire cup wheel on a small angle grinder and then use phosphoric acid, same as naval jelly but a liquid, 14 bucks/gal at Homey depot. Epoxy resin is best but poly will do. Prep for painting just like the body.

Never thought of this. That's a great idea. I'm going to have to try that. Thanks Noonie.
