Drive by and male sure the "For Sale" sign is gone off the car, an old sleazeball trick some dealers use while waiting for your money if someone comes up with the cash and will buy it then and there with no inspection they will sell it to them and tell you too bad and refund your deposit

Stock 30 year old Dana 44 who woulda thunk it would handle anything over 200 HP
i been thrashing mine as well motorhead. i have only 420 hp with 295 rear tires . only thing i changed in the stock dana 44 was some 355 gears . years later satill going strong .

turns out the car is NOT and l82. we took it to be checked out and pretty much everything is in good condition but it does need a tune up. whenever the car was painted i think the l82 emblems were put on so we are going to have to re negotiate the price

Fifth character of the VIN will be a 6 if the car was originally an L-82. It's an 8 for the L-48 cars and an H for the California 305 cars.

Just the same, $7K is a good price.

Good luck

Good luck with the new ride. Before any modifications, I would drive it to make sure everything is working the way it should first. If it's a 48 motor I can understand your need for some more HP. In respect to exhaust, the 80 is just a Safety Inspection in NY, no emissions. Unfortunately, according to NYS DMV, the 80 came with a CAT and is required. The Inspection station has never checked to see if I had one and didn't care if it was there or not. I am not sure, but I think the only grief you might get for no CAT is from a State Trooper.
