Hi all, vacuum advance packed up on my car, looks like the mechanics of the distributer is to blame. I want to get a new distributer.
I have a 1969 427 Tri-power car that had points and a mechanical out for the tach.
what should I get to replace the distributer?
Any suggestions?
Its all up to you and what you want to do with the car. Some will tell you it is a sin and that you are going to hell if you dont use the same distributer that it came with so you have to rebuild it. Others will tell you to convert it to HEI. Or just get a replacement points tach drive from places like ecklers etc etc
Keep the stock one on hand for originality - and replace it with an HEI tach-drive unit.

Thats what I'm thinking, originally the car came with transistorized ignition, I got it with points and put a petronix on it.
I' ll keep and restore the original, but for now I'm looking for the easy way out. Can you suggest an HEI tach drive unit that works with the stock coil?
I ran a MSD with tac drive unit. The engine ran noticeably smoother with it especially at high RPM, never a problem. I also had a MSD ignition and coil and don't know how/if one will run without it. There are plenty of Owners on the list who know or you can just call the MSD help line.
