Anyone using a Weiand X-CELerator single plane intake??
I was giving my motor away this weekend, and I decided to see what intake manifold it was since I never really looked before, and the guy who was getting the motor already has a Air Gap wouldnt want it. I found out it was a Weiand X-CELerator single plane intake good for 1500-6500. I was wondering if anyone else was using this intake or another single plane, and wondered how much of a performance gain I will on my zz4 with hotcam. i think it will fit under my hood also, because it was under there when the old motor was in there.
Any ideas??
Thanks
Chris

I used one for 12 or so years with different head and cam combos. They are for 1205 gasket type heads.
As to your other question about hot tanking. I would say no. Hot tanking uses caustics and aluminum rusts into white powder. Clean in solvent, scrape, and wire brush. Then media blast it.
Re: Anyone using a Weiand X-CELerator single plane intake?? (74VETTE)
Weiand offers two X-CELerators.# 7546 is close to the old style Edebrock Torker the 7547 is a near spitting image of the TorkerII.
I am not real certain but I think the 1204 is a better match for the unmodded manifolds if memory serves me correct. Will go out to a 1205 if needed.

Like Mountain Motor said I think there are two versions of the X-celerator.
I used the one below for a while....I couldn't tell any difference from the Eldelbrock RPM
Re: Anyone using a Weiand X-CELerator single plane intake?? (74VETTE)
Do you have a Summit catalog? If so turn to page 36 or whatever page and look at the FEL-PRO gaskets for sbc's sbc heads can be classed just by their gasket size. So a FEL-PRO 1205 is 1.28 X 2.09 so the intake port is probably in the 180-200 cc size.
The principal of gasses in motion and how tuned ram manifolds increase power is: From your intake to the valve the shape has to be like a funnel. As the funnel gets smaller the gas or liquid has to go faster with the piston pulling because of vacuum. That’s how you get ram effect and cylinder overfilling.
So you can’t put small intake ports on a big head port. The flow is all screwed up. So when you go to big heads you can’t put on a Edelbrock dual plane thinking that your going to get more bottom end. Also you can’t hog out the exit on the manifold to port match because your still having a restriction
The X-celerator I have had no provisions for a divider plate and it was more like a 2500 to 6500+. If your heads have a cross over always use blocking gaskets.

Thanks for the help guys...
I have the 7546 since its imprinted on the manifold. Im not too sure about the size of the intake on my heads....they are stock zz4, but i couldnt find anyywhere in my books, or web site telling me what size they are.
I dont even remember what size gaskets I used when i swapped my cams. I think what ill do is when i pull off the manifold is check the intake on the heads with a feeler gauge, and on the Weiand intake and see if they match up, and find the right gasket then.
Also, what do you mean by heads having a cross over?? Im still kinda new to the real specifics of motors.
Thanks guys!
Chris
P.S. yellow72, I like the look of the yellow splash in the engine bay alot! Very
