Guys,
Newbie with his 1st vette. Was poking around the engine bay and found this device just laying around. Car has a 406 w/tunnel ram and a turbo350, so I'm sure PO probably disconnected a lot of stuff to drop the new motor. Any help would be appreciated.
Is the TH350's kickdown cable connected to the carb? If so, then that old cable you have there is probably not needed and can be removed. Check if it's connected to anything on the other end.
There are no more cables attached to the carb other than the throttle cable, so there must only be a vacuum modulator. Car seems to shift fine, so I don't think I'm missing any hookups. I'll jack the car and see what it's connected to underneath and report back. Here's a pic of the DS carb setup showing the throttle cable...no trans cable hooked up that I can see.
Here's a pic of where the cable ends at the front, driver's side of the transmission. Can I just pull this out or is discretion the better part of valor here and should I just leave it in (sorry about the blurry pic...camera not the best at such close range)?
Also, when I got the car, the headlights didn't work. Found two disconnected vacuum lines at the left & right relay valves and a missing line between the headlight switch and the manual override switch. Connected those properly, then got out my trusty vacuum gauge and went to work. Engine pulls 16"Hg at idle, but was getting nothing downstream of the check valve. I've got a bastardized setup due to having a 406 engine, but was able to trace the problem to a hose running to this device (it was disconnected). I assume this is the modulator on the tranny and that I need this hooked up? Why would the transmission have/need both devices? Is it one or the other that's required but not both?
Thanks again guys! It's nice to have a resource like the forum, especially for us newbie vette owners.
