Starter Issues Solved
I had purchased a mini starter for my big block from one of the recommended business' on eBay. The starter worked great for about 15 starts and then started grinding badly. I pulled the starter down and added a shim and the same thing happened 10-15 great starts and then it would grind.
What I discovered was that the starter bolts that they had sent me had 3 dashes on the top of the bolt which I believe makes them grade 5 bolts. Well the bolts were bent pretty badly. My motor is only 11:1 compression so I was kind of surprised to see that happen. I went to Lowe's and bought two grade 8 bolts and had my buddy knurl them on his milling maching for me and I added a washer/lock-washer combo. It has been working great ever since. I've been keeping an eye on the bolts but they aren't loosening up.
