A co-worker's brother-in-law has a '78 pace car. He's the second owner of it. has the window sticker, all the documentation, decals still in the box (never applied). 95,000 miles. Looks to be in decent condition. might need paint. Has some running problems (vacuum leak perhaps).
Any guesses on value for it? The brother-in-law says he saw one in "mint" condition for $16k so he's thinking his car is worth $12-13k. Sounds relatively run-of-the-mill to me.
With the mile. It's better for him to drive it 5000 more miles and have a very low mile car. ;) I would think in the 8-10 if it needs paint and other work. Vetter mag had a issue last month with values in it. I think that's what they stated as a driver. With 6500 of them and half of them under 1000 miles, they are not quite rare yet. But will be one day. Hopefully no until I have a chance to buy one.
I agree 12-13 is too high. I got mine for less then that with 39 K on it, still all original at that time. That was 7 years ago though. There are still too many even in just my area that have never had their tires wet.
This is from the Flint (MI) Journal dtd 3-26-2002: Corvette Pace Car 1978 #6 built, only 4600 Miles. Orig Owner, L82 Auto., All Options, $31,500......If anyone is interested (   ), E-mail me and I'll get back to ya with the phone #
there's a guy somewhere on the net that i happened to stumble upon when using google that is selling a 78 pace car with 007 miles on it for $125,000US. sorry, i guess this doesn't help you to much with your question.
Chris,
L82/Auto. Original engine. Has all sorts of documentation from the original owner.
Sounds like the paint is original but not in the best shape. Probably ok for a driver though. Doesn't sound like it's in desperate need of new paint.
Dave
If I can assume the interior is in about the same shape as the paint, I'd estimate its value between $10,000 and $13,000.
We can do an online appraisal if the seller is interested.
Like I mentioned before, it belongs to a co-worker's brother-in-law. My co-worker is considering it, but instead of taking the "you're family, I'll give you a deal" approach, he's looking at it as "you're family, you should do me a favor and pay me what i want".
My co-worker isn't sure if it's THE car he wants. But it's an opportunity that he wants to look at anyhow.
